App Store Screenshot Sizes (2026)

Apple accepts eight iPhone display classes, but you only have to upload one set: 6.9-inch at 1320 × 2868 px. If your layout is identical across devices, App Store Connect scales that set down to every smaller iPhone automatically. Upload 1 to 10 screenshots per localization as flattened PNG or JPEG — no alpha channel, no transparency.

The minimum you actually have to upload

Apple states it directly in the App Store Connect guide: "If your app's user interface is the same across multiple device sizes and localizations, provide only the highest resolution screenshots required. They automatically scale down to smaller device sizes."

For an iPhone-only app with one consistent layout, that means a single set of 6.9-inch screenshots. Every smaller iPhone class is derived from it. You override that per size in Media Manager only when a layout genuinely differs.

Two hard requirements remain. The 6.5-inch set becomes required if you do not provide a 6.9-inch set. And an iPad app must ship a 13-inch set — iPhone screenshots never satisfy the iPad requirement.

  1. Design at 1320 × 2868 px (6.9-inch portrait) — the largest iPhone canvas Apple accepts.
  2. Export 1 to 10 screenshots per localization as flattened PNG or JPEG, with no alpha channel.
  3. Upload to the iPhone tab in App Store Connect and let the smaller classes scale down.
  4. Add per-size overrides in Media Manager only where the layout actually changes.
  5. If you ship an iPad build, repeat with a 13-inch set at 2064 × 2752 px.

The 6.5-inch row carries a condition the others do not: Apple marks it required if a 6.9-inch set is absent. Treat 6.9-inch as the one you build and 6.5-inch as the fallback you only need if you skip it.

Format rules that cause rejections

RuleValue
Count per localization1 minimum, 10 maximum
Accepted formats.png, .jpg, .jpeg
Alpha channelNot allowed
TransparencyNot allowed
Colour spaceFlatten to opaque before export

The alpha channel rule is the one that bites most often. A PNG exported from a design tool with a transparent corner radius or drop shadow will carry an alpha channel even when it looks opaque, and App Store Connect rejects it at upload rather than at review.

Where the 6.7-inch tier went

If you last shipped screenshots a couple of years ago you probably built a "6.7-inch" set at 1290 × 2796 px. That dimension is still accepted. The tier is not.

Apple's current specification lists eight iPhone display classes — 6.9", 6.5", 6.3", 6.1", 5.5", 4.7", 4" and 3.5" — and 1290 × 2796 now appears inside the 6.9-inch class next to 1260 × 2736 and 1320 × 2868. There is no separate 6.7-inch row any more.

Practical consequence: nothing breaks, but a checklist or a tool that still asks you for "6.7-inch" is describing Apple's older taxonomy. Build at 1320 × 2868 and the question stops mattering.

Which sizes ShotQuill exports

ShotQuill exports 6 slides across these 4 sizes — 24 PNGs per project.
ShotQuill sizePixelsApple display class
6.9"1320 × 28686.9" — the one set worth building
6.7"1290 × 27966.9" (Apple folded this dimension in)
6.5"1242 × 26886.5" — the fallback if you skip 6.9"
5.5"1242 × 22085.5"

This is a deliberate subset, not full coverage. It spans the two sizes Apple can require of an iPhone app plus two legacy classes, and skips 6.3", 6.1", 4.7", 4" and 3.5" because the 6.9-inch set scales down to all of them. iPad is not covered — an iPad app needs its own 13-inch set.

Questions

How many App Store screenshots do I need to upload?

Between 1 and 10 per localization. If your UI is identical across device sizes, uploading only the 6.9-inch iPhone set is enough — App Store Connect scales it down for smaller iPhones.

What is the largest iPhone screenshot size?

1320 × 2868 px portrait, in the 6.9-inch display class (iPhone 16 Pro Max and later).

Can App Store screenshots have transparency?

No. Apple rejects images containing alpha channels or transparency. Export flattened PNG or JPEG.

Do I still need a 5.5-inch iPhone screenshot set?

Not if your interface is the same across sizes — the 6.9-inch set scales down. A dedicated 5.5-inch set (1242 × 2208 px) only matters when that older layout genuinely differs.

Is there still a 6.7-inch screenshot size?

The dimension 1290 × 2796 px is still accepted, but Apple no longer lists a separate 6.7-inch tier — it now sits inside the 6.9-inch display class alongside 1260 × 2736 and 1320 × 2868.
